Szeroki Ostrów is the largest island on Lake Śniardwy and also the largest inland island in Poland with an area of nearly 95 ha. It is an excellent viewing point. You can watch numerous water birds from the island. The cliffs of the island raise up to 10 m above the water level and offer a narrow strip of pebble and sandy beach at their base. In the 16th century, a village was established on the Szeroki Ostrów island, with a population of up to 47 people. In 1943 or so, forced workers the camp in Zdory built a dike connecting the island with the mainland. Buildings that survived the war were robbed and dismantled after 1945.
