The obelisk was established in 2015. The trail leading down the Krutynia River commemorates the kayaking trip of Karol Wojtyła, a priest at that time, with an academic group that took place on August 1–15, 1957. Participants of that trip were on the route from Sorkwity to Ostrołęka (down the Pisa River from Pisz and then down the Narew River).
