PATH ADMINISTRATOR: Masurian Landscape Park
ON THE ROUTE:
- Wooden decks and bridges, covered bonfire stand.
Around the Pond in Piecki educational trail was created in 2020. The route leads along the east shore of the pond. Despite the buildings in the vicinity, a significant number of waterfowl, especially terns, has been seen on the pond. Trying to improve the breeding conditions of these birds, PTOP built an artificial island on the pond in 2012. The island, with an area of 3,000 m2, isn’t connected with the pond banks in any way to provide good breeding conditions for the birds.
There are covered gazebo-like spots on the trail used to watch waterfowl living on the pond such as: black tern, common tern, black-headed gull, common gull, mute swan, tufted duck, common pochard, grey heron and great white egret. You can also see there raptors such as osprey, western marsh harrier, red kite or white-tailed eagle, and if you’re lucky, you can see water mammals such as otter and beaver. The trail offers a special bonfire place, banks and bins, educational and information boards.
Note! The facility is under surveillance!
