The weir was erected before the war in order to raise the water level in Lake Mokre. The lake was to serve as a water reservoir for the Masurian channels planned at that time. Ultimately, they aimed to connect the Masurian region with the Baltic Sea, however, after the borders were changed due to World War II, the project was not implemented. Nowadays, the weir separates the kayaking route and you need to carry your kayak using the designated footbridge.
