The route: Spychowo – Zgon – Krutyń – Krutyński Piecek – Rosocha – Wojnowo – Ukta – Nowy Most – Iznota – Kamień – Ruciane-Nida
During the entire trip you will need to carry your kayak twice and use the lock once. On river sections, watch out for protruding boulders and shallows, while on lakes for high waves on windy days.
The kayaking route down the Krutynia River is considered to be one of the most beautiful in Poland and one of the most popular in Europe. It is more than 100 km long. It starts in Sorkwity by Lake Lampackie and ends in Ruciane-Nida by Lake Nidzkie. Half of the route stays within the Masurian Landscape Park. The route was named after the Krutynia River that is 26 km long, starts in Lake Krutyńskie and ends in Lake Gardyńskie. Other sections lead along rivers and streams called anabranches that connect individual lakes on the trail. The current of Krutynia is slow and the river meanders heavily. At some places the river is 30–40 m wide and 1.5–7 m deep. The Krutynia basin has an area of approx. 640 km2.
The entire area is a silence zone and no camping outside the designated areas is allowed. On the Krutynia trail, picking any plants and catching animals outside of the places designated for fishing is prohibited.
