PATH ADMINISTRATOR: Masurian Landscape Park
MARKING: green
TRAIL COURSE: Krutyń – Cierzpięty – Uklanka – Zgon – Krutyń
ON THE ROUTE:
- The route leads through forest areas, dirt roads and forest paths (watch out for protruding roots). In the village of Zgon you need to take national road no. 58 for 500 m or so.
The biking trail runs along the shore of Lake Mokre. The Masurian activist, Karol Małłek, wrote: “Not Mokre but Mukre” as Mukre is the local name of this lake. It is a large (815 ha) and at the same time the deepest (51 m) body of water in the Park. The lake is embraced by the Pisz Forest and is a channel stretching from south to north for about 7.5 km. On the route, you can admire the Masurian landscapes and the beauty of nature reserves of Królewska Sosna, Zakręt and Krutynia Górna. On the lake you can see numerous grey herons, cormorants, swans or great crested grebes. If you’re lucky, you will spot a white-tailed eagle or an osprey. A village of Zgon is situated on the south shore of the lake. Its name derives from the fact that the former inhabitants scolded cattle to a watering place by Mokre. A village was founded in 1708 as a fishing settlement. A dozen or so old wooden huts have survived there to this day.
