TRAIL COURSE: Krutyń – Piersławek – Lipowo – Krutyń
ON THE ROUTE:
- The route leads mainly in forest areas, along forest, field, dirt and asphalt roads.
The biking trail of Ernst Wiechert allows you to visit places related to the writer. The destination of the trip is the Forester's Lodge in Piersławek, which houses the Memorial Chamber dedicated to the writer. The exhibition presents the writer’s works, numerous printed documents and memorabilia. North of the forester's lodge there is a grave of the writer's younger brother, Paul, who died of diphtheria in 1895 at the age of five. Wiechert portrayed his brother's illness and death in the autobiographical novel Forests and People.
Cycling through the village of Lipowo, pay attention to the early medieval stronghold with a rampart at the north-western shore of Lake Majcz Wielki. Passing by the Strzałowo nature reserve, you can stray from the trail and turn towards the headquarters of the Strzałowo Forest Inspectorate. Right behind it there is a small cemetery with three graves, e.g. of Wiechert’s son and first wife. When back in Krutyń, visit the local cemetery where Wiechert’s grandparents are buried.
