ON THE ROUTE:
- A forest road, sometimes sandy and shaded, watch out for uneven terrain and protruding roots.
Leading past two nature reserves, this nature trail allows you to explore the most interesting places around Krutyń. Both the Zakręt and the Królewska Sosna nature reserves present valuable high bogs, dystrophic lakes with floating islands and swamp vegetation. Hike further and you’ll reach Lake Mokre, one of the biggest and deepest lake in this part of the region. Its beauty was repeatedly described by Karol Małłek, a Masurian activist, who used to call it Lake “Mukre”. Małłek expressed his attachment to the Masurian nature especially in the book Jest Dąb nad Mukrem (There’s an Oak at Lake Mukre) from 1956. The nature monument, an oak at Lake Mukre in the Królewska Sosna nature reserve (which you’ll see later), was named after the writer. The steep shores of the lake are surrounded by forests, mainly pine. A strongly developed shoreline, with numerous bays and peninsulas, surrounded by rush vegetation, creates a shelter for waterfowl. You can see birds such as white-tailed eagle, osprey, red kite, lesser spotted eagle or grey heron here.
