The first information about the church comes from 1500. The temple was built on the site of a Teutonic Order castle previously destroyed by the Lithuanians. As a result of secularization of Prussia, the church became of evangelical confession. In 1799 a new church was built on old foundations, and renovated in 1914–1923. In 1981 the church was bought from the Evangelical community, and the Roman Catholic parish of the Immaculate Heart of Mary was established in 1984.
The church is made of brick, erected on a rectangular plan, and with no separate chancel. The interior is crowned with a barrel ceiling and from three sides surrounded by a wide gallery supported with wooden poles. Rich plant, geometric and symbolic polychrome is what you should pay close attention to.The furnishings include a pulpit (currently removed from the altar), a baptismal font, two large wooden hanging candlesticks and side panels of banks decorated with polychrome that matches the interior.
