Pranie is a forester’s lodge situated on a picturesque slope of Lake Nidzkie, less than 6 km away from Ruciane-Nida. Konstanty Ildefons Gałczyński, a poet, “introduced” it into places considered to be legends of Polish literary culture. In 1950–1953 he visited Pranie, being a guest of the forester Stanisław Popowski. The poet wrote pieces important for the development of poetry there, including poems Niobe, Wit Stwosz and The Olsztyn Chronicles. It was also the place where he translated Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night's Dream and The Tempest. In 1980, a museum dedicated to the poet was established in the forester's lodge, which contains valuable collections related to his life and work. Today, it is the most famous forester-museum in Poland, not only because of its patron, but also the artistic programme, Pranie Forester’s Lodge –– a joyful centre, successfully implemented for over 20 years and enthusiastically appreciated by the visiting audience.
