Research Station of the Institute of Animal Reproduction and Food Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Popielno

Information

Since 2016, the Research Station in Popielno has been a part of the Institute of Animal Reproduction and Food Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Olsztyn. It is located on the Popielno Peninsula, between four lakes and covers an area of about 1800 ha. A road to the station leads through beautiful forests. Right after you cross its gates, you’ll be welcomed by Polish primitive horses, roe deer and deer. The station also owns the Kończewo Experimental Forest District located in the Pisz Forest, where scientific and research works are carried out. The Research Station operations are aimed at protecting biological diversity by breeding animals of conservative breeds, e.g. Polish primitive horse, Polish red and lowland black and white cattle. The station also undertakes educational initiatives and promotes an active lifestyle. Exhibits presenting the 50-year-old achievements of the facility are gathered in the museum, that is housed in a historic 18th-century granary. It hosts a unique collection of deer antlers.
