A historic seed husking mill named after Zdzisław Boroński in Ruciane-Nida, is the oldest still operating husking mill in Poland. All equipment is original and fully functional. It was built in 1890-92. At that time, it was the largest and most modern husking mill in former East Prussia. Today, the main warehouse can hold 180 tons of cones at a time. The maximum husking capacity is 35 kg of seeds per day, which requires about 3 tons of cones.
Seeds provided by the mill (on average 200 kg per year, or about 35 million pieces) are used in forest nurseries to grow tree seedlings.
The husking mill is part of the Forest Education Centre. The educational trail “Around Lake Chudek” (1.6 km long) leads nearby.
